Connecting correspondent banks with the users of the accounts, the financial institutions, isn't as straightforward as it may seem. Correspondent banks take on a substantial amount of risk by facilitating transactions. Even though the client facing financial institution must itself be regulated, the correspondent accounts are also responsible for ensuring that each transaction complies with international standards and regulations.
