Yet most companies treat payment and banking as secondary tasks. They rely on finance teams or operations managers—who are rarely trained in the specifics.

Viktoria pointed out a critical issue: key subjects like payment infrastructure, banking compliance, and licensing are missing from accounting degrees, economics programs, and even MBAs.

The role of a Chief Payment Officer was introduced as a solution. This person would bridge gaps between departments, oversee the full payment setup, and ensure it supports the wider business goals.

The message was clear: payment and banking are now strategic functions and they deserve the same attention, planning, and expertise as tax, legal, or product.

If ignored, businesses risk inefficiencies, account freezes, fraud exposure, and profit loss.
