Webinar by the The Soltesz Institute with Marios Skyrianides, CHA
In the latest webinar, we have discussed SEPA Instant Payments Regulation and Opportunities with Marios. The webinar highlighted what changed for consumers as well as for banks and payment institutions, and where the real risks sit when money moves in seconds.
Under the EU SEPA Instant Payments Regulation, payment service providers in the euro area must be able to receive SEPA Instant credit transfers from 9 January 2025 and must be able to send SEPA Instant payments from 9 October 2025, with funds credited within seconds and at the same price as standard SEPA transfers, while also applying verification of payee checks.
This is a massive cost and technical challenge for financial institutions, however once it is implemented right, SEPA Instant payments can change customer behaviour, FinTech products and even whole operational processes for businesses.
